JBLM Announces Partnership with Move for Hunger

|

Donations for Move for Hunger

Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) has taken a significant step in supporting the local community, by becoming the first Liberty Military Housing installation to partner with Move for Hunger. Move for Hunger is an organization dedicated to combating food insecurity in the United States and Canada. Through this partnership, JBLM facilitates a meaningful way for families to contribute to the community during their relocation process. So far, JBLM has collected 680 pounds of food, resulting in more than 560 meals!

Move for Hunger’s initiative is impactful yet easy. When families are preparing to move, they can donate unopened, non-perishable food items to the organization by simply leaving them on the counter in the home or dropping these items off at a JBLM District Office. These donations are then collected and delivered to local food pantries, where they are distributed to families in need within the community. This initiative not only reduces food waste during the moving process but also provides essential support to those facing food insecurity.

“According to the U.S. Department of Defense, more than 25% of military families struggle with food insecurity. Through our partnership with Move for Hunger, food donated through the program is provided to local food banks that serve JBLM,” says Amber Smith, Regional Property Manager of Liberty Military Housing. “Move for Hunger is not just a partnership; it is a chance for us to nourish those who need help. We are excited to see the difference that Liberty Military Housing can make in this unseen epidemic.”

By participating in Move for Hunger, military families can contribute to the well-being of their local community in a tangible and meaningful way. It serves as a great opportunity for families to give back to those in need, aligning with the central values of military life.
