Maintenance Mania
Since the program's introduction, nearly 20,000 maintenance technicians have signed up to compete in Maintenance Mania® since the program’s.
Across the country, NAA chapters host local Maintenance Mania® events to recognize the top maintenance technicians in the industry. Winners from each chapter get a chance to compete at the National Championship during the annual NAA conference. These highly skilled maintenance technicians compete in fast-paced races of skills and timing.
Joel Martinez, a Liberty Military Housing Maintenance Supervisor in the San Diego area, competed and placed in multiple events during the Maintenance Mania Finals. Joel brought home six first-place Regional awards and two third-place National awards this year. At the National Championship, Martinez placed third in the Pfister® drain installation and Kwikset® key control deadbolt challenges. Out of 20 competitors, Joel finished fourth overall with an impressive time of one minute and 8-seconds.
Joel is no stranger to competing for the National title. Joel has earned his spot to compete for the past ten years. Since 2013, Joel has earned 59 Regional and 10 National Maintenance Mania titles.
The Brave New World of Privatized Military Housing
Senior Vice President of Operations, Gail Miller, provided valuable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of privatized military housing. She explored the challenges, opportunities, and best practices for managing military housing projects in a rapidly changing environment. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the unique aspects of this multi-family housing sector and learned strategies to enhance operational efficiency while prioritizing resident satisfaction.
MHPI Training in the New Normal: Lessons, Lies, and Learning
Vice President of Training and Development, Luis Lopez, delved into MHPI (Military Housing Privatization Initiative) training in the new normal. Luis discussed how the military housing privatization industry captures the attention of and trains our team members while competing with the stressors of a lingering pandemic, increased regulatory pressure, and overall transformational change. The session focuses on tactics to improve learning via different delivery methods and provide teams with new strategies for employee engagement and information retention using creative ways to deliver content that will stick—and drive results for our residents.
Conquering Today's Top Talent & Supply Chain Shortages
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent "Great Resignation" phenomenon, the facilities maintenance industry has encountered significant challenges, including shortages of materials, parts, and labor. Senior Regional Maintenance Director, Kamil Konopka, addressed these issues and discussed the need for creative and resilient teams to meet the evolving needs of residents and clients. Kamil shared strategies to stay agile and overcome challenges despite historical imbalances and turbocharged competition.
