With the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics beginning today, Lincoln Military Housing was not one to miss out on the fun! Residents were invited to participate in an event that featured the best of the upcoming games. Kids dribbled, boxed, and swung their way to medals as they participated in the Olympic style games. Events included archery, basketball hoop shoot, big glove boxing, and golf. Olympic medalist, Tonie Campbell, came out for the games. The kids could meet this world-class hurdler and listen to stories about his time in the Seoul Olympics. After they had worked up an appetite for winning the gold, the whole family feasted on traditional Brazilian fare. There were spiced meat and veggie skewers, slow-cooked Feijoada black beans, crisp Palmitos salads, and fluffy Pao de Queijo cheese bread.

The evening ended with the best of Brazilian entertainment. Kids watched with wide eyes as the music began and the Brazilian dance group Sol E Mar appeared. The group sidestepped and turned the samba across the stage in their feathered headdresses.

The 400 residents went home with fond memories, full bellies, and maybe even a gold medal or two.
