Liberty Military Housing (Liberty) hosted the 15th Annual Cause We Can 5K Run/Walk, raising $6,024 for military non-profits. On June 29th, residents, Liberty team members, and military non-profits gathered at the NTC Park in Liberty Station, San Diego, for the cause. The mission of this race is to provide military families the opportunity to give back to their local San Diego community and to raise funds for military non-profits that support the military community.
Families met multiple organizations that support them throughout the year and learned how they can help support - Cause We Can! This special event was a private race for military families who live in Liberty Military Housing. The “racers” were treated to the 5K Run/Walk racecourse, a swag bag, a family photo, a medal for completing the race, music, and breakfast afterward. In total, there were over 500 racers, including 140 military families.
100% of the proceeds from all the sponsors and the door prize ticket sales from our military families were donated to the three selected military non-profits. The causes include Armed Services YMCA, USO, and Fleet Week San Diego. In total, $6,024 was raised, and each non-profit received $2,000.
“It was an amazing morning! Military families were dressed in red, white, and blue for the Patriotic Outfit Contest, and all ages were running and walking and experiencing this great event as a family. This event allows our families to create family memories and give back to the community that supports them all year. Cause We Can! We have been hosting this event for 15 years, and it just gets better and better each year!” says Cindy Farless, Community Services Director of Liberty Military Housing.
